Building a Green Capital City
WEI Executive Director John Imes was a
member of the Conservation and Green Building Subcommittee of the Madison Mayor's Energy
Task Force. This Task Force worked for more
than a year to help the city develop strategies
for energy efficiency, conservation and green building design.

Energy Forum Report Cited as Blueprint for a More Reliable Energy Future for Wisconsin
With the recent widespread power outage in the Northeast, the reliability of Wisconsin's power supply sits heavily on the minds of power plants operators, policy makers and consumers alike.  Recent editorials cite WEI's Energy Forum Report as a blueprint for planning Wisconsin's energy future.  Tom Still offers recommendations in "Four Steps to Securing More Reliable Electric Power For Wisconsin," while the Marshfield News Herald weighs in with the op-ed piece "Don't short-circuit needed state energy policy."

Guest Column by Tom Still:  "Energy report points the way to reliable yet environmentally friendly future" 2-9-03

The Energy Forum is a sustained, collaborative effort on the part of diverse Wisconsin leaders to find innovative ways to fulfill our energy needs while positively impacting the environment and economy.  Since 2001, the Wisconsin Environmental Initiative has engaged over 100 representatives of utilities, business, government, consumer groups, environmental organizations, and academia in a series of conferences and working group sessions aimed at setting goals for Wisconsin's energy future and identifying opportunities for achieving them.

Highlighting creative, effective energy practices and policies, the Energy Forum report presents the recommendations and ideas of program participants on tailoring energy decisions to respond to Wisconsin's broader environmental and economic goals.

The document is both a guide for Wisconsin's energy future and a celebration of effective energy measures already in place in Wisconsin and elsewhere.  Moreover, it is a starting point for further dialogue and work towards the goal of connecting energy policies and practices with Wisconsin's environmental and economic priorities.

We look forward to partnering with you in this effort to create a reliable, environmentally sound, and economically viable energy system for our state.
