Panelists
Jerry Deschane is the Director of Government Affairs for the Wisconsin Builders
Association. On behalf of the Association he is a member of several state environmental
and land use advisory boards. Deschane is a former radio news director at stations in
Northern Wisconsin.
Rebecca Frisch is Director of Langlade County Land Records and Regulations. She
is a member of the NR115 Shoreland Management External Discussion Group, has served as
President of Wisconsin County Code Administrators and as a member of the state Strategic
Growth Task Force.
Ruth Goetz is the Northern Representative for the Wisconsin Department of
Tourism in Ashland. She works on shoreland development issues with Wisconsin resort
operators.
Dave Marcouiller is an Assistant Professor of Urban & Regional Planning at
UW-Madison. His work focuses on the links between natural resources and rural economic
development . He has a particular interest in the mechanisms behind income generation and
its distribution to rural households.
Mike Meyer is a Wildlife Research Biologist with the Department of Natural
Resources Bureau of Integrated Science Services in Rhinelander. His research has recently
focused on the impact of lakeshore development on wildlife in northern Wisconsin.
Karen Pavlicek is a Realtor with Edina Realty in Spooner. She specializes in
developing and marketing recreational properties, lakeshore, river and vacant properties.
She is the developer of Eagle Deer Park, an acclaimed cluster development on Big Sand
Lake, Wisconsin.
Peter Peshek is an attorney with Dewitt Ross & Stevens, S.C., Madison. In
1993, he was nominated by the Natural Resources Board for the position of DNR Secretary.
He served as Public Intervenor for environmental affairs from 1976 to 1983.
Dean Premo, Ph.D., is President of White Water Associates, Inc., an ecological
consulting firm in northern Michigan. His work in biodiversity and ecosystem health with
forest managers has received national recognition and has been featured in The New York
Times. He is developing an ecology training program for waterfront real estate agents with
a pilot program in Wisconsin.
Fred Rozumolski is a Landscape Ecologist with Barr Engineering and is co-author
of Lakescaping for Wildlife and Water Quality. His work includes native plant
community restoration, stormwater infiltration techniques and sustainable landscape
design.
William Smith is the Northern Region Director for the Department of Natural
Resources and is responsible for Department operations in 18 counties in northern
Wisconsin. He also serves as co-director of the Northern Initiatives project.
Mary Thompson is President of the Northwoods Realtors Association, is a
waterfront homeowner and is actively looking for ways to improve the quality of life in
the northern Wisconsin.
Jim Wise has 20 years of experience working with grassroots environmental
organizations including The Northwoods Alliance, The Stewardship Network and ECCOLA. He is
also the owner of a retail outdoor clothing store in Tomahawk.
